The Independent is doing good legwork with this tragic story today. Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old nonbinary student at Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma, died last week after being beaten by multiple girls in the high school bathroom. Heartbreaking.
Wisconsin gets new, less gerrymandered election maps
Wisconsin has historically been the site of some awful gerrymandering; while the state as a whole tilts Democratic, the state legislative districts were constructed to give Republicans a supermajority. That changed after the statewide election of a state Supreme Court justice that tipped the court balance liberal. Now the state district lines have been redrawn, the legislature is forecast to be ”up for grabs”, and the Republicans are crying bloody murder. Chalk it up as a win for democracy!
